Forge

One creative engine for every discipline.

Image and graphic design, video, documents, presentations, code and audio. Open a project, work in that discipline only, export when you are done.

Image / Graphic design, Video & Animation and Audio & Sound are live now. The other three disciplines are in progress.

Six disciplines, one engine

Each discipline is its own workspace with its own tools. Nothing from the others gets in the way.

Image / Graphic design

Paint, retouch, lay out and illustrate on one canvas. Pixels and vectors live side by side as real layers, and every tool works on them directly.

Paint and retouch

Brush, pencil, airbrush, eraser, fill and gradient. Clone, healing and spot healing, smudge, dodge, burn, sponge, blur and sharpen brushes, all with size, hardness and flow.

Select

Marquee, lasso, polygon lasso, magic wand, quick selection and colour range, combined by adding, subtracting or intersecting. Grow, shrink, feather, smooth, border, invert and a quick mask. Cut, copy, paste, and paste a picture into a selection, a frame or an image.

Vectors and layout

Shapes, stars, polygons, arrows and speech bubbles, a pen with editable nodes, unite, subtract, intersect and exclude, groups, frames that crop photos, align and distribute, and text edited right on the canvas.

Layers and effects

Opacity and blend modes, masks, clipping, shadows, glows and outlines on any layer. Curves, levels, looks and live adjustments, and a gallery of more than twenty-five filters previewed as you change them.

Templates and elements

More than thirty designed templates for social posts and stories, posters, slides, cards, covers, menus and certificates, plus icons, text styles, photographs and moving stickers.

Export

PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG with real vector paths, PDF, GIF, TIFF and BMP, or the project as an .oql file that keeps every layer editable. Add an animated GIF and the design moves to Video & Animation by itself; take it out and it comes back.

Video & Animation

Edit, animate, grade, mix and deliver on one multi-track timeline. Six pages - Media, Edit, Animate, Color, Audio and Deliver - each with the tools for that stage and nothing else.

Edit

Video and audio tracks, a magnetic main track, split, trim, ripple delete, snapping, markers and in/out points. Position, scale, rotation, opacity and volume can all be keyframed.

Animate

Draw frame by frame with brush, pencil, eraser, fill and shapes, onion skin, layers, holds and a frame rate of your own. Any clip can enter, exit and loop with pop, rise, drop, slide, zoom, spin, wipe, pulse, float and more.

Designs, titles and stickers

Text, shapes and photos drawn exactly as in Image & Graphics, moving stickers, titles and lower thirds, subtitles from .srt files, and templates for countdowns, slideshows, quotes, stories and logo stings.

Transitions and speed

Dissolve, dips, wipes, slides, zoom, iris and blur. Speed from 0.1× to 8× with pitch kept, reverse, and freeze frame.

Color and audio

Lift, gamma, gain and offset wheels, looks, a chroma key and live scopes. A mixer with live meters, clip fades, three-band EQ, pitch shift and voiceover recorded straight onto the timeline.

Deliver and GIFs

MP4, WebM, MKV, animated GIF with your choice of size, frame rate, colours and dithering, WAV, a still frame as PNG, or the project as an .oql file. A GIF maker starts one from a video, pictures, demo footage or a drawing.

Audio & Sound

Make beats and songs, play instruments, mix, DJ and edit recordings. Five pages - Studio, Mixer, Play, Decks and Editor - all open in every project.

Studio

A step sequencer for drums, a piano roll with scales, chords, velocity and quantise, and a playlist that arranges patterns and recordings into a song. 137 built-in sounds: pianos, organs, guitars, basses, strings, brass and wind, synths, pads, mallets and world instruments, 27 drums, 5 drum kits and 24 sound effects, plus a sampler for any sound you bring.

Mixer

A master and eight insert channels with three-band EQ, pan, mute, solo and live meters. Each channel carries a chain of reverb, echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, distortion, bit crusher, filter with wobble, compressor, equaliser, tremolo, stereo width and limiter.

Play

Play a piano, a guitar with chords, strumming and capo, sixteen drum pads, a soundboard and a sampler, by touch, by the computer keyboard or from a MIDI controller. An arpeggiator, and notes or audio recorded straight into the project.

Decks

Two decks with tempo detection, sync, hot cues, beat loops, pitch faders, nudge and scratching, a mixer with EQ, filter and echo per deck, a crossfader with two curves, and the mix recorded as a sound.

Editor

Cut, copy, paste, trim and silence on a zoomable waveform or spectrogram. Fades, normalise, gain, speed, tempo with pitch kept, pitch with length kept, reverse, echo and noise reduction from a profile, with undo for every step.

Export

The song, a pattern, each instrument as its own stem or the Editor's audio as WAV, the notes as a MIDI file, or the project as an .oql file. Anything you make is kept among your sounds, ready for a video.

Between disciplines

A project can ask another discipline for something and get it back in place, without leaving its own workspace behind.

Sound for a video

From a video, add sound from this device, from My Files, from an attached drive, or make a new one in Audio & Sound and send it back to the playhead. A clip's sound can be edited there and returns in its place.

Pictures for a video

Send a frame or a part of the frame to Image & Graphics, retouch or draw over it, and it comes back as the replaced frame or a still on the timeline.

A design that moves

Add sound to a design and it becomes a video with that design on its timeline. Add an animated GIF and it moves to Video & Animation by itself; take it out and it comes back.

How it works

New Project

Pick a discipline, then a canvas. The workspace becomes that discipline and nothing else.

Open File

From your Ocaltio drive (My Files) or straight from this device.

Save and export

Save overwrites where the project lives. Save As and Export open the same file tree as Open File, or download to this device.

Every project is saved as a single .oql file, in its own folder under /root/forge/projects/, alongside the resources it needs.

Start creating.

Pick a discipline and the rest of the interface stays out of the way.
